Backround
Merrick (surname unknown) was born on a small farm in the wilderness of rural Albion, an only child he was raised by his parents he was expected to work and help out on the farm.
His father, an ex-mercernary who as a result of some problem in his past was forced to move to take up a new life of annoynimity on a small farm far from any civilisation. A cold, pragmatic man of little faith he raised his son to be a proficient fighter and talked very little of his past. Whatever happened that forced him to give up his life and become a farmer he would never speak of. He raised his son to be ruthless, to take any advantage and to succeed at any cost. Clearly he classed himself as a failure and wanted to avoid his son making the same mistakes.
Merrick's mother was a dedicated follower of law, at least until she was forced to flee a prosperous life in the city and become the wife of a farmer. Her experience at the hands of whatever forces her husband was hiding from had left her bitter and with a strong distrust of those in power, seeing corruption and evil everywhere. Growing up with little human contact, Merrick inherited some of these views, he was taught that the evil and unjust in society needed to be removed but that it was foolish to blindly trust those with power or authority.
So Merrick grew up honing his skills as a fighter, enjoying hunting the wildlife that grew up in the area and preparing himself for life as a farmer.
Until one day, after returning from a few days hunting Merrick discovered that the farm had been burnt to the ground. All he could find searching through the rubble were two human corpses. His only assumption being that whatever it was that his father had been hiding from had caught up with him. He ran and left the farm, only taking the clothes and sword on his back.
After a rough journey with no money and little food through Albion, he eventually ended up in Abberdu and the AAG. Merrick refuses to share his surname and is reluctant to talk about his past, his aim being to avoid whatever shady dealings his father was involved in.
