Major Proudfoot-Smith was found at the age of about 7 wandering in a blizzard in the mountains near K'chon by a monk, who took pity on him and brought him back to the temple where he was raised and christened Yamarashi. He learnt to be a warrior from them, believing in the power of his ancestors. As he had no parents, he could not make a pilgrimage to the site of the tombs of his ancestors. Ashamed; he left to discover who his ancestors were.
Yamarashi spent years fighting as a mercenary and soldier of fortune. Until, earlier this year he was employed by what he believed to be a regiment of the Albion Grenadiers as a skirmisher, but unbeknown to him he had been chosen as a test subject for a secret experiment to be conducted by high ranking members of the Albion Military.
It had been decided that the Albion Army needed a new shock tactic and he bright idea had been to form an entirly new form of asault brigade. It was perceived that the training program alone would be very risky, so experienced soldiers couldn’t be risked. The flip side to this problem is that if you train inexperienced soldiers who are more expendable then you would end up with inexperienced shock troops.
To avoid this problem entirely, it was decided to train mercenaries. The problem with this is that they may defect or desert, taking their training and the idea of the airborne assault with them. To combat this, they were to be brainwashed into believing that they were Albion by birth and very patriotic. Through a complicated process of hypnosis and Coercion, and their training was executed. During this process Yamarrashi was re-named with a sensible name – that of Bernard Poudfoot-Smith – to reduce the likelihood of him discovering his true history. Bernard was found to take very well to his training and was selected to lead The Brigade in its first outing as Major.
Whilst on leave after, the Brigades decisive victory, he spent several months in Aberddu where he joined The Adventurers Guild as something to do in his spare time. Whilst roaming in the wilds of Paravel he came across The Adventurers Guild for a second time, and was made Guild Champion by Dreg during a fit of rage for his dastardly use of tactics.
