Kenshiro Tsubasa Akimoto is the son of Maximilian Thorne, a merchant from Aberddu who became an unofficial Trade Ambassador in the Honshu Prefecture of Nippon.
The grandson of the Lord of that Province, he was found to be gifted in the art of Necromancy and was accepted as a student of Masamune, the Imperial State Necromancer, at the age of 14.

In Aberddu, he studied Necromancy with the Mages' Guild before its destruction with the aim of one day returning to his Master as a more worthy student.

When Nippon was virtually destroyed, both his parents were killed. When his grandfather Lord Kenshiro Toranaga died in the spring of 1107, his only living relative was his sister Avril Thorne, who remains in New Nippon.

In November 1108, Kenshiro left the Adventurers' Guild after an incident involving the Frysian Inquisition. He returned in January 1109 as a Lich, having turned himself into an Undead for reasons he has not fully disclosed.
