Not a huge lot of detail is known about Guthlac, mainly because its hard to make any sense of what he's saying, and even when you can, its hard to tell if what he's saying is the truth. Most people consider Guthlac a senile old man, when really he's just an incredibly insane, unusually tall dwarf of middle age. He comes across like an old man through a combination of the madness and the fact that he hobbles around and tends to suffer from bad knees, a bad back and various other problems. The truth of it is (as he often has to explain) is that he body has been thoroughly broken by the Frisians. At the age of sixty, he was captured by the Frisians, and stretched upon a rack, in some misguided attempt to attempt to make him 'like them.' Eventually, he broke out and killed all of his captors in a horrid rage, but unfortunately, the damage to him was already done.

Despite the fact that he is a freakishly tall dwarf, he is still accepted by the dwarves of Aberddu, and is actually quite a popular entity within their community. Like a lot of people he knows in the Guild, the local dwarves tend to just ignore the fact that he's clearly insane, and they also treat him like he's an ordinary dwarf. Guthlac's popularity comes from his father, Guthlac the Old, another notable and popular member of Aberrdu's dwarven community. Now that the Old lives in the Dwarven realms again, the Young just about manages to take his place in fulfilling festivities on Dwarven Trick Night, as well as occasionally visiting and helping out the AAG in his own way.

Here are some things that are actually true about Guthlac; Like his father, he was born in the Dwarven Realms, but has travelled a lot. However, like his father, he also has most of his family in the Dwarven Realms. It is unknown why the rest of Family Guthlac are in the Realms The Young lives in Abberddu on his own, especially since he has three wives, ten children, twenty grandchildren and three great grand-children. Like all Guthlacs, his name isn't actaully Guthlac; Guthlac is the family name they prefer to refer to themselves by with non-Guthlacs, with an added nick name, since their actual names are so long. The Young's real name is Guthlac Garnagredd Prayrduhm the Young Relatively Speaking. The Young used to be a cleric of the All Gods; when they asked for their worshippers to follow a single god or none, The Young chose to follow Death, as he decided that the End of All Things in creativity was clearly the most important aspect of existance. He has respect for worshippers of any god, but thinks that worshippers of false gods (such as Wyld-worship) and those who have no god are deserving of destruction unless they are willing to change their heathen beliefs. Following All Giods had cracked what was already a fragile mind due to living with his broken body, and now a sole devotion to Death, which is granting him quite a lot of power, has finished the work that his previous religion and torture experience had started. Guthlac occasionally talks to fellow Guthlac's that are not there; it is unclear whether he actually is hearing Guthlac ghosts as he claims or if its just another manifestation of his madness. Since his outing to the Guild to Ctuma, he has experienced occasional bouts of blindness and deafness, and vastly increased short term memory loss. This came about after recieving short term magically-indused memory loss 9 times in the space of about ten minutes after 'The Statue Incident.' He has a tendency for talking about 'The Bakery', though its never clear really why or what happened there, other than what possibly was a deliberate act of arson. Guthlac is officially a cannibal; he was never particularly bothered about what he ate, having sampled many of the 'common races', but now he has added a dwarf to the list. Whilst aiding in the battle against the Black Inquisitor he was stripped of his beard, corrupted and then let loose with Hands of Glory active; when the Guild Master at the time, Stryke, told him to kill Isen, who was attacking the Guild, he took it a little literally, and devoured half of his face, and pulped his chest, thoroughly killing his fellow dwarf and Adventurer.

Guthlac doesn't really have any skills other than a fairly significant amount of clerical power geared towards combat (as he does not heal, its against his religion) and so tend to have bursts of magic-fuelled killing sprees. Otherwise, he is known for fighting with his beloved shovel, which he sees as the perfect weapon of death; you can kill your foe, and then bury them straight after.

Guthlac seems to get on quite well in the Guild as despite being horribly evil, most people tend to deliberately ignore the fact or just plain not notice in the first place. Most see him as the defenceless old man, and so there is usually always someone watching his back. Shame he doesn't care at all about watching theirs...
