Frisia
Geography and Population
An influential nation that occupies a large area in the North West of the continent. A highly civilised nation, the population live in well-established towns and villages scattered across the country. The highly populated capital ’Freetown’ is a progressive city, proud of its advancement and achievements. It is situated on either side of the mighty river Taen, which flows almost directly East to West across the country, from mountains on the Paravelian border to the sea. The Taen and its tributaries provide water, power, transport and livelihood to nearly half the country’s populace. The proletariat are better cared for than the peasantry of many countries and live in relative comfort, employment is high and work is profitable. The Inquisition’s regime have successfully moulded them into a hard working people who are proud of their Motherland. Nobility is based around military rank rather than heredity, and few titles are inherited through the bloodline. Economically, Frisia is almost independent, choosing not to trade with outside sources unless it can not be avoided.
History
Born of the ruins of the pre-cataclysm country Clarancy, Frisia has been a nation of conflict for nearly a millennium. For centuries, Frisia waged war on its neighbours, Paravel to the west and Albion to the south, without any regard for the smaller states in between. After years of warfare, the Frisia was left in a state of anarchy, under the piecemeal rule of dozens of provincial warlords. For two hundred and fifty years, Frisia existed in a chaotic state of civil war until it was united under the leadership of a single elusive warlord. In 790AC, Frisia closed its borders to outsiders, the Frisian Army of Purebloods was formed and the tyrannical reign of the inquisition began.
Politics and Military
The Frisian Nation is ruled by the iron hand of the Frisian Inquisition, led by the faceless High Inquisitor. Preaching a doctrine of purity, they seek to cleanse the world of non-pureblood races, particularly elves. The main power base of Inquisition is the monstrous Frisian military that marches under the banner of the Red Army. There are few families in Frisia that have not in some way contributed to this gargantuan fighting force. The last couple of years have seen a far more terrible threat emerge from Frisia. The Black Inquisition seem to be intent on spread far more widespread cruelty, employing foul and secretive methods to cleanse not just non-humans but non-frisians as well. So sinister is the reputation of the Black Inquisitor himself that even the suggestion of him strikes panic into the heart of the bravest men.
