Young men and women of 13 and over are drafted in to the Frisian Youth Army, where they begin their military training early to ensure that when they are 16 they are full fledged and useful members of their Frisian Army units.
Not only are these recruits put through rigorous practical training they undertake a demanding programme of study and instruction as well.
The Frisian Youth Army is a very popular organisation with many new members every year.
