Clan Dustfox

The Dustfox is a phenomena found in the dry empty waste land regions of Tartaria, small tornadoes of grit and sand they spring up out of nowhere and then vanish again. Seemingly ephemeral they can still strip the skin off of an un-weary traveler, much like the desert fox, the small bat eared relative of the common fox native to Tartaria.

Long ago Clan Dustfox was one of the great clans, the tale of their deeds was matched by the richness of their herds and the number of their warriors. Then came Salamander with his vision of a united Tartarian peoples and his unmatched guile. Clan Dustfox were one of the first clans to join his cause, knowing that their un-matched skills at tracking would earn them cattle and riches beyond reckoning, and allow them to gain the richest of lands.

Thus is was that they were at the front of the invasion, and therefore when the invasion failed they were left deep in enemy territory surrounded by the Western forces while other Tribes raced back to Tartaria and stole their herds and territories, leaving Clan Dustfox a broken clan.

From then on Clan Dustfox were only a few steps above being castouts, only their skills and bloody mindedness kept them from being wiped out totaly, even so that once great clan never regained its numbers.

This lack of numbers led to other problems, the Totem spoke to the clan telling them that to survive they must allow their womanfolk to seek out mates where ever they can, to bring fresh strong blood into the clan. A quest that earnt the Clan a reputation for being not only poor but full of "loose" woman.

Still like the Dust fox, they survived. Hunting in those areas that no other Clans would visit, all the time fending off attacks from other Clans and Paravalian forces.

Salamander Returns 1097AC

Once more Salamander returned, and once more he appealed to the Clan of Dustfox to guide his armies into the west. With so few in the Clan capable of hearing the voice of Dustfox anymore, and desperate for a better life it was only natural that the clan rallied to the banners of Salamander. With the voice of the few dissenters being ignored as they watched, powerless as the clan doomed itself once more.

Salamander was true to his word. Within weeks the clans herds of goats had doubled in size with new offspring. The children of the clan improved in health, and there were no more children lost to disease or famine.

The Middle Kingdoms

Along wth Clan Hawk and Clan Raven, Clan Dustfox were first into the Middle Kingdoms, their scouts marking out the routes for the other clans to follow.

Here it was that the Chief of Clan Dustfox and his followers were gifted with Red amulets from Salamander, cementing their loyalty.

Here it was that Derren Gerrinson was made Clan Champion by Salamnder himself, only to be slain by his father in a challange designed to bring the Clan away from Salamander and back to Dustfox.

But despite the success of the challange, the others were unmoved their minds now ruled by Salamander and greed. Disgusted with what he saw, Gerrin Dustfox took the clan spear, symbol of the clans existance and proclaimed all others as outcast, before fleeing to the Westlands.

The End of the War

Clan Dustfox survived the recent war and managed to claim new lands for themselves in the Middle Kingdoms.

The last surviving members of Dustfox, Kari and Fera gave their lives in the summer of 1109 in a ritual to empower the reborn Phoenix totem. The Dustfox have died so that the Pheonix may live.
