Born and raised in the Temple to Knowledge in Londinium by the Brothers of Memory during his father's indenture to the temple for the healing they provided, Baralis grew up in the worship of Knowledge. As he was approaching the age of apprentice it was Brother Jonathan from the temple who taught him to harness the raw power of the elements, no mean feat considering the priest did not know the magic himself and had to teach Baralis entirely from written text. This caused some controversy as Baralis' father was not fond of arcane magic, being a ranger by profession.

First Year in the AAG

Baralis joined the AAG in 1108 driven by a long seated desire to restore Knowledge power in the belief that the Adventurers Guild might come across the means to produce such ascent. Adventuring life has been bitter sweet for Baralis, for more information read on.

Autumn and Winter 1108

Baralis joined the guild as the fey began their 'invasion' of the mortal plane. One of the first things he saw as a member of the guild was another member (Olly) being cut down by fey in the guild meeting hall, and the subsequent failure to heal or resurrect him as the body was lost.

First Mission

The first mission Baralis attended was to help finish off the last of the Frisian inquisitors in the Dwarven Realms. It was then that he took his first life, that of the Frisian Inquisitor Coercer slitting his throat while he was astrally projecting. The lack of feeling towards this bothered Baralis for a short while afterwards but subsided quickly as he rationalised that Frisian Inquisitors deserved to die.

His comrades on this mission were Eerie and Rurik of Clan Dragon, Torgluk Headsplitter, and Dvorak. The Clan Dragon Tartars took Baralis on a pub crawl the night before so wild that he needed a hypnotist to recover the memories of what happened. Those same Tartars nick named him the Most Educated Doormat they had ever seen, after noting his propensity to lying face first in the dirt bleeding to death.

Faith Rekindled

In his first few months in Aberddu he gained the power to heal wounds through prayer to Knowledges Memory. This coincided with Eldoth Naler linking the dead gods of Knowledge and Enigmas through the a ritual involving the Book of Questions and the Eye of Reading. On discussing this with Eldoth both he and Baralis were exuberant as it meant the faiths they grew up in were truly being reborn.

Winter and Spring 1109

Second Mission

His second mission was to investigate and deal with a tower linked to a rebellious coercer that had been harassing the guild.

Summer 1109

Resurrection of Clan Phoenix

In the summer of 1109 Baralis was one of many to go and investigate the fires that were spreading through Tartaria and the appearance of the so called flame-born. There he assisted in the recovery of the Clan Phoenix Totem, and the fight against Magnamus who was attempting to take the power of the phoenix so he can begin slaying gods. While present in Tartaria Baralis, Silky and Torgluk took part in a naming ceremony led by the the Phoenix Clan Chieftain which pronounced them true members of the clan.

Second Year in the AAG

Autumn 1109

Time in Tartaria

When the rest of the guild left Tartaria Baralis remained so he could train some of the phoenix clansmen and women in the art of elemental magic. This took until mid-winter, and when he left there were 10 members of the clan who were proficient with elemental magic. Curiously they were neither capable nor needed to learn any magic that utilised the element of water. This 'skipping' of spells was something Baralis found very curious.

Winter 1110

On returning to Aberddu Baralis was shocked to learn that several powerful guild members including Eldoth Naler were replaced with demonic doppelgangers.

With the final death of Eldoth Naler, Baralis become almost obsessed with networking for and organising what remains of the faithful of Knowledge and the Enigmas. In the spring of the year 1110 he endeavoured for the Twinned God of Knowledge and Enigmas, Waarheid, to begin his rise to power.

Spring 1110

Third Mission

His third venture was intended to be a simple mine investigation which ended up as a search and rescue mission to find Sally the kidnapped daughter of Betty the proprietor of the Slaughtered Lamb in Dursdale. The kidnappers were a band of Albion and Frysian deserters lead by a enigmatic man in full metal armour. This mission lead to the death of a guild member named Ug, and despite Ug's later resurrection the following week Baralis has remained guilt ridden; possessing the honest belief that if he hadn't squandered his time and power such drastic healing would never have been needed. This combined with his anger at the despicable actions of the former Queen's Guard led to his relentless pursuit of annihilating the remaining members of the deserter army.

Truth's Ascension

With the deserter army quashed by the adventurers guild Baralis was able to refocus on the ascension of Waarheid, using the help of Ward/Edward deBriee to bring together his old mentors from Londinium. After much organisation and bringing the word of the faithful to the population of Aberddu, Baralis organised the beginnings of a long ritual using every available cleric of knowledge and enigmas to call forth and empower Waarheid (Which the Eye of Reading translated as Truth). With the Cloak of Paradox returned to the temple by Solustaran and the Eye of Reading (An divinely powered artefact of the Knowledge faith) the ritual to empower the rise of Waarheid achieved a monumental milestone. After a moment where all the faithful felt a great spiritual weight lift of there shoulders the statue acting as the principle focus of the ritual in with the eye was set and the cloak adorned began to glow. The radiance spread throughout that part of the temple until all that was visible was the statue itself and the worshippers before it; the plinth on which the statue was set vanished from existence, and the stone of the statue changed in appearance from its original sandstone to white marble. When radiance covered and enraptured all of the faithful of Waarheid, Two Gods Knowledge and Enigmas United, the God Truth the statue; now the nascent God itself; spoke asking who it was, emboldened by the elation of witnessing the rise of the faith he grew up with Baralis responding, declaring the god to be Truth. When the god repeated this and declared itself to be Truth the room itself slowly stopped glowing, leaving the faithful kneeling before a floating figure with an appearance similar to that of marble with radiance of pure divine energy.

Spurred on by this the Church of Truth have redoubled their efforts to spread the word of Truth. Currently the main effort to this end is missionary work to the peasants of Aberddu; educating them in literacy and numeracy. Baralis has also taken to visiting pubs and taverns frequented by merchants and travellers recounting the story to anyone that would listen; a trick he learnt while waiting for a return portal from after a mission in Alendria (his fourth mission with the guild), when he noticed that people were interested enough to pass the story (and hence the message along) even if not swayed into converting to the faith themselves. The task being to investigate and restore a miraculous Well of the Goddess Life, which had stopped performing miracles and had in fact dried up, the other adventurers on this mission were Abatha, Gabriel, Morganna and Grimna(?). It was also after this mission that Abatha and Gabriel donated the Eyes of Knowledge (Scrying and Spirit Eyes respectively) to the cause of further empowering the god Truth and hastening his return to power. Now out of the remaining eyes of knowledge; only the eye of planar sight, in the possession of Vatel, is outside the hands of the faithful of Truth.

Baralis formed a templar order to defend Waarheid and his faithful in the Spring of 1110. Initial membership being himself and the more military minded of Waarheid's followers they are taking the name Blades of Waarheid as their identity. For the time frame between the last official guild meeting in May of 1110 and the mission in Araby the training of this order was undertaken primarily by Rikku.

Summer 1110

Before travelling to Araby Baralis organised a sacrificial ritual to Truth/Waarheid along the same vein as the ritual to empower the phoenix. Baralis personally offered up magic lore the memories of it, the god restored the memories and took magic lore. In return for his sacrifice Baralis was made a Collector for his god, this provoked no small amount of emotional anguish as such a role defied Baralis' conscience (Eldoth Naler was also killed and taken by the collector of Vengeance).

The Fight Against Al-Rakiem

Upon reaching the Cult of the Wyld Enclave in Araby Baralis and others within the guild was most displeased with the reception afforded by their so called employers. The dislike stemming from both the condescending reception and the lack information given to the adventurers about the protections around the Enclave. After being indirectly insulted by the Cult of the Wyld during their 'tests', he and a few others almost decided to leave on the Friday night.

The Phylactery

The second day of the venture began with a rather auspicious start when one of the local Cult of the Wyld members made an unprovoked attack on Gabriel Dawn for refusing to part with his chosen companions (Baralis among them) and take part in a different mission. Needless to say this didn't help with relations between much of the guild and the cult.During this mission to raid and destroy Al-Rakiems Phylactery Baralis revealed himself to be a collector to the rest of the player party while threatening a spirit possessing Gabriel. When in the centre of the fortress he had a a fit of conscience when asked to slay Al'Rakims harem as he was never one to attack unarmed women, Gabriel Dawn performed the act instead.

The attempt to flee the mission didn't go as planned either as the party was harassed by a seemingly insane mummy, a lich and the lich's wraith minions. In the panic the party became separated and Vilet and Teeka was struck down. Baralis was able to rescue Vilet during the retreat at the end of his mission by summoning an earth elemental, unfortunately and to his future dismay Teeka was also found to be missing and they were unable to rescue her. To compound the loss the item they believe to be the Phylactery was stolen by the insane mummy.

The Final Fight

In the final fight against Al'Rakiem Baralis petitioned his god for aid as the Betrayer had manifested upon the field and Baralis had no magic to combat the enemy. Truth gave Baralis a surge of physical strength and the divine commandment to collect everything. Baralis was two minds of this, and was just able to keep himself from harvesting his fellow adventurers. Unitil the betrayer was repelled and Al'Rakim was dispatched, at that point there were no other targets, struggling to maintain himself Baralis snapped when he saw the leader of a (potential) opposing faith, Nostros.

Third Year in the AAG

Autumn and Winter 1110

The Fall of Truth

In an attempt to bring more power to his god Truth in a ritual performed during Night of Masks, Baralis inadvertently opened a pit gate that almost consumed most of Aberddu. From Baralis' perspective the figure that was his god ceased to glow and crashed to the ground. This was followed by the insides of his temple glowing in the reddy-orange of pit magic. When Baralis went outside to see what was happening He saw a dome of fire encompassing the city with an a huge unblinking eye at its peak looking directly at him.

Over four thousand people died as a direct result of this ritual as most of the city was attacked by demons while under the dome. This death toll was estimated to reach eight thousand when the long term effects of pit burn and taint finished running their course throughout the city.

Return of Waarheid

Baralis received dreams of a hand holding a lantern that calms him when he dreams of it. On the arrival of pilgrims from Alraeth it was revealed that the entire sequence events was the result of using the meaning of Waarheid's name instead of the actual name. Which runs contrary to the basic theology as seen in other religions, Waarheid was evidently being over zealous in being part Enigma. The pilgrims also revealed that Waarheid is alive and well in Alraeth prompting Baralis to got to Alraeth on a pilgrimage. There he attempted to to cleanse his soul to little avail. When he returned he began subjecting himself to temple cleansing on a daily basis, rotating through all temples that he could access.

Fourth Mission

Baralis was part of the stealth party on the two pronged mission to rescue Vilet. In the process of thieir mission they travelled into the Pit where Baralis actually felt better than normal. This obviously resulted in no small amount of existential angst, although it did reveal that he did possess a shard of true clerical magic as he could not perform the spell Wound Heal. Baralis almost died several times over that adventure, managed to pit tainted his fellow adventures with his demonic healing magic to keep them alive, and successfully used the evoker spell Fog offensively against an enemy caster during their escape.

Winter and Spring 1111

Fifth Mission

An adventure to escort a group of death clerics to a font of holy death with Trethalis , Reet, Splish and Pepper. This font was blessed so that anyone who drinks from it is assured an eternal afterlife in Death's realm. The nature of this font was very interesting to Baralis as at the time he has the assurance of his soul being dragged into the pit for an eternity of torment.

Baralis spent the adventure in near constant prayer striving to find an answer to whether he should let go, take the out presented to him and pass on. Which was disconcerting for his fellow adventurers who weren't happy with the idea of Baralis committing suicide.

When they reached the pool Baralis prayed one last time to Waarheid and Knowledges Memory and in doing so heard his god's voice. This was something that had never happened before, and kept Baralis from taking the easy path away from his apparent destiny.

After hearing the voice Baralis successfully rededicated himself to Waarheid in a clerical ritual, wresting himself ever so slightly from the demons grip. On the way out of the temple that they heard hunting horns and were attacked by fey hunting Baralis. Despite his incessant pleas to get them to just run away and leave him the others stuck by even when it was most hopeless. Luckily they all managed to escape with teir lives. Although Trethalis and Pepper were Hunter's Marked by the fey.

Sixth Mission

The adventure to thwart the Circle of Thorns, a group of psychotic shamans who desired the destruction of all civilisation. Baralis worked with Jim, Elyas, Exachix, Solustaren and Arkady.

The mission concluded with the avatar of the Wyld that the Circle of Thorns summoned sent into the volcano in Nortroll that the Volcano God resides within. This triggered a volcanic eruption that slew hundreds of people, the Volcano God was not pleased and punished the AAG at the following Thursday meeting.

New Students

Two members of Clan phoenix Greigor and Krieg arrived in Aberddu in the middle of February to take Baralis' standing offer of evoker training. Rather than learn from Baralis' former students in their clan they decided to learn from the original source.

The Road to Hell

Baralis began working and networking to arrange a mission to find and slay the demon Truth. To assist this he has been petitioning both the Cult of the Wyld and the Mage's Guild for aid.

Seventh Mission

Baralis left with Reet, Vilet 'Delthan', TiiG Troglodyte and Praxis to investigate the Frysian activities in C'tuma. They spent just over a week travelling to the site of the Frysian activity to avoid complications from portal magic, meeting Kevlar Sans Serif on the way.

While in C'tuma they encountered a lot of Klik-Kliks, fought a group of confused Frysians who didn't know why they were here or why they lost the memories of the last few months. Found out the army had moved away, and that the Frysians were doing something to the local totems.

Echoes of a Nightmare

After the fey created alternate reality collapsed in upon itself Baralis cloistered himself in virtual solitude as he tried to come to terms with what fell depths he might have reached.

Reet visited him during this time, a move that was more than a little unexpected given that he had soul drained and sacrificed her to a demon in the alternate reality. Their conversation was filled with awkward silence with little actually being said, as both of them were profoundly disturbed by the event.

Since then, despite the agonizing trauma of the event they shared from opposite perspectives, Reet and Baralis somehow have managed to remain friends. To an observer they actually seem to be closer as a result.

Summer 1111

Eighth Mission

Baralis woke up on Friday morning on the 19th of May 1111 to find himself recruited into an adventure with Reet, Jousha, Helga Oakenshield, and Sammy in the employ of Lieutenant Jessica Baker. They were hired to go to Hassalt to search and locate the Life Clerics who fled from a temple in Albion that became a pit gate. The goal being to find them before the Albion Army do as they are likely to kill first and ask questions later.

They found the Life Clerics relatively quickly and through Reet's questioning found them to be innocent and actually saved by the God of Life directly through the artefacts they carried. With Sammy swearing a vow that they would reach Avon Nix in Aberddu the Life Ckerics relinquished the items that saved them into the party's safe keeping.

A Matter of Trust

During the guilds latest Thursday foray before the summer, Baralis' trust in their ability to connect a rational and coherent sequence of thoughts was severely damaged. This includes faith in their capability to have a rational thought. The nights proceeding began with Baralis and several other guild members being kidnapped by demons in front of the guild, during their absence he was informed that doppelgänger sent to attack the guild. In the end Baralis managed to break himself and the others out of their entrapment and fight their way back to the guild.

However, when they got back to the guild the Life followers claimed Baralis was not who he claimed to be, this rather upset Baralis for obvious reasons. Having decided that he was a threat the Life followers convinced Alfie to deal with Baralis by having Exachix stab him in the back (again) and render him mute. While Baralis was unconscious Tiig checked his soul with Spirit Eyes and finds out that it is Baralis', the Life followers were unconvinced by Tiig's assessment.

After being healed Baralis tries to get the guild to check him every way they have, all methods revealed him to be not a demon, construct, or under a magical effect. The Life followers are still unconvinced and actually try to murder an unharmed and spell-less Baralis, some people then get a little suspicious.

Autumn 1111

Ninth Mission

A trip with Reet, Brother August, Grathe, and Barzon to go kill a rogue Arch Mage Evoker who was terrorising a local village, this evoker also seemed to be en,listing the help of mercenaries and had great expertise in placing magical traps. More To Be Added
