Born and raised in the Temple to Knowledge in Londinium by the Brothers of Memory during his father's indenture to the temple for the healing they provided, Baralis grew up in the worship of Knowledge. As he was approaching the age of apprentice it was Brother Jonathan from the temple who taught him to harness the raw power of the elements, no mean feat considering the priest had know skill in this himself and had to teach Baralis entirely from written text. This caused some controversy as Baralis' father was not fond of arcane magic, being a ranger by profession.
A member of the AAG since the end of 1108 Baralis has been on four missions, excluding the defence of the phoenix. The first was to help finish off the last of the Frysian inquisitors in the Dwarven Realms, the second to investigate and deal with a tower linked to a rebellious coercer that had been harassing the guild, the third was an abortive mine investigation turned rescue mission, and the fourth was a charitable effort to investigate the sudden drying up of a purported of a Miraculous Well of Life.
In the summer of 1109 Baralis was one of many to go and investigate the fires that were spreading through Tartaria and the appearance of the so called flame-born. There he assisted in the recovery of the Clan Phoenix Totem, and the fight against Magnamus who was attempting to take the power of the phoenix so he can begin slaying gods. While present in Tartaria Baralis, Silky and Torgluk took part in a naming ceremony led by the the phoenix clan chieftain which pronounced them true members of the clan. When the rest of the guild left Tartaria Baralis remained so he could train some of the phoenix clansmen and women in the art of elemental magic. This took until mid-winter, and when he left there were 10 members of the clan who were proficient with elemental magic; although curiously they were neither capable nor needed to learn any magic that utilised the element of water, something Baralis found very curious.
Since the final death of Eldoth Naler, Baralis has been networking for and organising what remains of the faithful of knowledge and the enigmas. This spring of the year 1110 he intends for the Twinned God of Knowledge and Enigmas, Waarheid, to begin his rise to power; and has seen no small portion of success in this endeavour (see below).
His third venture was intended to be a simple mine investigation which ended up as a search and rescue mission to find Sally the kidnapped daughter of Betty the proprietor of the Slaughtered Lamb in Dursdale. The kidnappers were a band of Albion and Frysian deserters lead by a enigmatic man in full metal armour. This mission lead to the death of a guild member named Ug, and despite Ug's later resurrection the following week Baralis has remained guilt ridden; possessing the honest belief that if he hadn't squandered his time and power such drastic healing would never have been needed. This combined with his anger at the despicable actions of the former Queen's Guard has led to his relentless pursuit of annihilating the remaining members of the deserter army.
With the deserter army quashed by the adventurers guild Baralis was able to refocus on the ascension of Waarheid, using the help of Ward/Edward deBriee to bring together his old mentors from Londinium.
After much organisation and bringing the word of the faithful to the population of Aberddu, Baralis organised the beginnings of a long ritual using every available cleric of knowledge and enigmas to call forth and empower Waarheid (Which the Eye of Reading translated as Truth). With the Cloak of Paradox returned to the temple by Solustaran and the Eye of Reading (An divinely powered artefact of the Knowledge faith) the ritual to empower the rise of Waarheid achieved a monumental milestone. After a moment where all the faithful felt a great spiritual weight lift of there shoulders the statue acting as the principle focus of the ritual in with the eye was set and the cloak adorned began to glow. The radiance spread throughout that part of the temple until all that was visible was the statue itself and the worshippers before it; the plinth on which the statue was set vanished from existence, and the stone of the statue changed in appearance from its original sandstone to white marble. When radiance covered and enraptured all of the faithful of Waarheid, Two Gods Knowledge and Enigmas United, the God Truth the statue; now the nascent God itself; spoke asking who it was, emboldened by the elation of witnessing the rise of the faith he grew up with Baralis responding, declaring the god to be Truth. When the god repeated this and declared itself to be Truth the room itself slowly stopped glowing, leaving the faithful kneeling before a floating figure with an appearance similar to that of marble with radiance of pure divine energy.
Spurred on by this the Church of Truth have redoubled their efforts to spread the word of Truth. Currently the main effort to this end is missionary work to the peasants of Aberddu; educating them in literacy and numeracy. Baralis has also taken to visiting pubs and taverns frequented by merchants and travellers recounting the story to anyone that would listen; a trick he learnt while waiting for a return portal from after a mission in Alendria, when he noticed that people were interested enough to pass the story (and hence the message along) even if not swayed into converting to the faith themselves. The task being to investigate and restore a miraculous Well of the Goddess Life, which had stopped performing miracles and had in fact dried up, the other adventurers on this mission were Abatha, Gabriel, Morganna and Grimna(?). It was also after this mission that Abatha and Gabriel donated the Eyes of Knowledge (Scrying and Spirit Eyes respectively) to the cause of further empowering the god Truth and hastening his return to power. Now out of the remaining eyes of knowledge; only the eye of planar sight, in the possession of Vatel, is outside the hands of the faithful of Truth.
Baralis has formed a templar order to defend Waarheid and his faithful. Initial membership being himself and the more military minded of Waarheid's followers they are taking the name Blades of Waarheid as their identity. For the time frame between the last official guild meeting in May of 1110 and the mission in Araby the training of this order was undertaken primarily by Rikku.
