Amroth

Amroth is the Goddess of honour and war. She believe that in order to obtain victory one must be honourable and just in every fight. Followers of Amroth are just and noble in battle. They always keep their word and have strict personal honour codes that they will not break for anything. Warriors going into battle pray to Her for protection and victory, and She is generally a warrior’s Goddess, as She doesn’t hold life as sacred and isn’t forgiving of Her followers. She also has her own special race that she created, the Iceni, who are animal shifters. Recently Amroth has blessed her clerics, who now must make a choice to fight Demons or the Undead. Those who fight demons have access to different spells to aid them in their battles.

Other Aspects

Heimdala, The Defender

Heimdala stands at the gates of Vallheim, welcoming the honoured and the valiant dead to their eternal rest and turning back the dishonoured to the gates of Helheim. She appears as a red-haired woman in chain armour, a wolf-skin cloak and carrying a sword and shield. She will not draw Her sword before wearing Her shield, and will only use it in defence of the innocent and righteous wounded. Heimdala embodies Amroth’s protective side, and many pray to her for protection, and in matters of Honour.

Gunnar, The Hunter

Gunnar is the aspect who embodies the unstoppable wrath of Amroth: the thirst for retribution, to seek out traitors and the Unholy and see them brought to Divine Justice. He appears as a man of around fifty years, with dark grey hair and thick beard. His clothes are those of a huntsman, and He carries twin axes, a longbow and a quiver of arrows. Some of His followers claim that He never sleeps. Many pray to Gunnar with oaths of vengeance, as well as those who seek to root out heresy.

Vathnir, The Warlord

Clad in plated armour and wielding a gleaming sword and shield, a greatsword sheathed at His back and two wolves – one black as night, the other white as snow – at His side. Vathnir embodies the cold, relentless necessity of War. He shows no emotion, not in the heat of battle or in victory. He is prayed to by those who are about to go into battle.

Ulfgar, The Wanderer

Ulfgar appears as an actual figure in the history of Albion when He came to the aid of one of the young Queens shortly after the death of her father. It was Ulfgar who first established what came to be known as the Queens’ Guard, though His origins – and what became of Him when He left Albion several years later – remain a mystery. He appears as a man of middle age with dark hair, most often dressed as a commoner or traveller, but for a broadsword He often carries on His shoulder. Ulfgar embodies the aspect of the “wandering guardian”, who arrives when He is needed, does what is required to ensure the safety of those whom He was sent to protect, and then leaves without trace. Some believe that Ulfgar is simply a mortal – different with each appearance – who carries the Will of Amroth, and is in fact not an Aspect.

Fenrir, The Black Wolf'

Keeper of the dishonoured, Fenrir stands at the gates of Helheim, keeping the disgraced followers of Amroth within and turning back those who have lost their way. He appears as a hybrid-form Iceni with fur as dark as night and eyes that burn dark blue. It is rumoured that Fenrir was among the first Iceni and made it His personal task to hunt down those declared Anathema by Amroth and to pass judgement over them. There are further rumours that a cult exists within the Amrothian Temples where Fenrir’s task is carried forth into the world of mortals – The Cult of the Black Wolf: men and women who have sacrificed their own honour through the necessity of stemming further pain and dishonour. They are the assassins who kill villains while they sleep, who stab poisoned daggers into the backs of those who guard tyrants. All of this – and more – they do, knowing that they will be cast into Helheim, though the fate that awaits them there is still uncertain.

The Realm of Amroth

The realm of Amroth is split into three distinct areas.

The Bridge of Swords

All who enter her realm must pass over this bridge to face judgment by Heimdala The Defender. If judged worthy a soul will pass through the gates of Valheim, but if judged unworthy, then she will turn those down the frozen slopes to the gates of Helheim. Below the bridge flows a river of Boiling Blood and Molten Steel, and in its shallows those who have not proven themselves worthy, but are undeserving of Helheim do battle to prove their worth.

Valheim

The home of the valiant dead where the greatest heroes of the Amrothians feast in their Halls with their fallen comrades and loved ones.

Helheim

The domain of Fenrir, this place is colder than the deepest winter and is home to Amrothians who have brought dishonour upon themselves and their Kin. Only through a decree by Amroth may any soul be released from Helheim, though Amroth is not a very forgiving God. Within Helheim sits the feared Tree of Woe

Holy Days

June 21st, The Rise of Summer

In the customs of their ancestors, Amrothians mark the first day of Summer – the season of war in the ancient traditions. The Rise of Summer is observed by fasting and silent meditation from sunrise to sunset. This is the only day when no Amrothians may go anywhere unarmed, even inside their own Temples. In the years since the Summer of Fire, this has become less of a tradition and more of a Law. At sunset, the fast is broken first with bread and water, and then by mead and a modest meal.

December 1st, The Rise of Winter

Winter was the ancient season of rest; with the year’s harvest stored, the Amrothians of days gone by would take this time to count up their dead, to heal their wounds and to prepare for the coming year. From sunset on this night until the following sunrise, Temples become places of feasting and merriment. Great feasts are laid out, music is played and songs are sung. The following morning is marked by a Service of Remembrance for all those who have passed on during the year. All those not already unconscious through drink are required to attend.
